India is a Hindu nation: Mohan Bhagwat

Calcutta, 23/12/25 (AMA AITIHA) : India is a Hindu state. There is no need for any constitutional recognition for this, said Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat. Addressing a program organized in Kolkata on Sunday to mark the centenary of the Sangh, Shri Bhagwat said that India is a Hindu nation and it will remain a Hindu nation. India’s constitution has recognized India as a Hindu nation. India’s constitution and religious traditions are followed by a majority of the country’s people. Therefore, there is no need for constitutional recognition for this. He said that the sun rises in the east. We do not know when this has happened. Because it has not been given any constitutional recognition. Those who consider India as their motherland, respect India’s ancient constitution and civilization, and India will remain a Hindu nation as long as a single person is alive. Shri Bhagwat said that if Parliament amends the Constitution and adds the new word “Hindu nation” to India, it will be welcome. If the Parliament does not amend the Constitution, we Hindus need not worry. Because we are Hindus and our country is a Hindu country. India is not a secular country. In 1976, the Constitution was amended and the word secular was included in its preamble. The then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, while imposing a state of emergency in the country, amended the Constitution and declared India a secular country. Shri Bhagwat said that RSS is not anti-Muslim. People from the Muslim community should come to the offices and programs of the Sangh and observe it. It is not right for them to consider the Sangh as anti-Muslim from outside or influenced by the words of others
