Oman’s highest civilian honour for Modi
Free trade agreement signed between the two countries
Muscat, 19/12: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been conferred with Oman’s highest civilian honour, the Order of Oman. Prime Minister Modi was honoured with the highest civilian honour of 29 countries by Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tariq on Thursday during his two-day visit to Oman. On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Oman, Modi held bilateral talks in the fields of trade, investment, defence and maritime security between the two countries. Modi held a bilateral meeting with Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tariq in Muscat today. Modi was accorded a warm welcome by the Sultan upon his arrival at the palace. The two leaders held a delegation-level meeting. In a significant development in bilateral relations, the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEP) or Free Trade Agreement (FTA) has been signed. Under the agreement, Oman will not impose any duty on goods exported by India. Similarly, India will not impose any duty on goods imported from Oman. Prime Minister Modi addressed a large gathering of the Indian community in Muscat. The audience included more than 700 students from various countries.
