1562 villages in the state do not have mobile: serviceData usage has increased threefold in 7 years

Bhubaneswar, 16/12: Mobile has now become the main medium in the field of communication. People have become accustomed to using the internet, not just communication. With internet facilities in the villages and mobile phones in the hands of most people, the government is implementing various schemes through digital channels. Starting from collecting ration supplies in the villages to the process of buying food grains in cooperative societies, the process is being done online. 1562 villages in the state are deprived of mobile connectivity and this facility. In the last two decades, a revolution has taken place in the field of telecommunications in the country and the state. Earlier, letters and landlines were the means of communication, but now mobile phones have taken this place. People have completely forgotten about writing letters. Only letters received by the government and courts are coming through post. The government is giving priority to digitalization and is providing services through it, starting from the cities. New technologies are being implemented day by day in the field of internet services. While initially internet services were available at 2GB, now they have reached 5G. While it is said that 5G services of various companies are available in all cities of the state, in reality it is different. Not to mention internet services, the problem of call drops has also been reported. According to the data, the government had set a target to provide 4G mobile services to all villages of the state by June 2025. Facilities were provided to villages without mobile network in phases. Despite the efforts, it has not been possible to provide mobile mobile network to 1562 villages of the state. 1217 villages with large tribal population remain deprived of mobile services. Similarly, 4G services have not reached 2151 villages so far. The cost of installing towers in the hilly areas is high. Due to the high population density in tribal-dominated areas, private companies are turning away. Due to this, mobile services do not reach all the villages in Kandal, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri districts of the state. The government agency BSNL has made efforts to install towers in all these areas. While the target is to install 4,210 towers by 2025, about 3,000 towers have been made operational.
