Marijuana smuggling: 200 cases, 299 accused arrested by Railway Police

Bhubaneswar 21/12/25(AMA AITIHA): This year, the Railway Police has achieved great success in the case of smuggling of narcotics through the railways. So far, 299 accused have been arrested in 200 cases. Similarly, the Railway Police has seized more than 3352 kg of smuggled ganja. State Security Director General Yogesh Bahadur Khurania has informed this. Cuttack Railway Police has registered the maximum number of cases, while Rourkela has made the maximum number of arrests. Cuttack Railway Police has registered 87 cases and seized more than 1489 kg of ganja and arrested 116 accused. Similarly, Rourkela Railway Police has registered 113 cases and seized more than 1863 kg of ganja. Along with this, 183 accused involved in smuggling have been arrested. Similarly, 2.61 grams of brown sugar have been seized. All the arrested accused are from outside the state. The police have come to know during the investigation that the accused are from Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Maharashtra and Gujarat. The investigation of all the cases is going on and the police is taking extensive steps to break the smuggling network behind it, the police said. Strict checks and inspections are being carried out with proper coordination between the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the Government Railway Police (GRP) to keep the railways free from drug smuggling. Joint operations are being carried out at and from many important railway stations in the state like Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Sambalpur, Puri, Rourkela etc. Suspicious bags/parcels in the train are being checked regularly and necessary steps are being taken. Along with this, checks are being carried out by sniffer dogs at various times in the stations and train coaches. A zero tolerance policy is being adopted against the drug mafia and strict action will be taken against those involved in the crime, the DGP said.
