ABSTRACT
The paper explores the historical trajectory of Odisha as it navigates the complex interplay between tradition, modernity, social change, and development. Tracing its roots from ancient civilizations to the colonial period and post-independence era, the study analyzes how Odisha’s socio-economic and political landscape has undergone significant transformations. The paper examines key phases of modernization, including the impact of industrialization, urbanization, technological advancements, and policy interventions, as well as the shifting social structures and cultural identities within the state. Furthermore, it critically evaluates the effects of economic reforms, globalization, and demographic changes on the region’s development patterns.
